The not-tropical rain forest

Here be monkeys

Another hard-earned checkpoint

Soggy, but happy with the camp site

Sunny Sunday start

Must be an uphill coming then

First rain then sunshine in the The Lakes. Saturday we rode well and laid down a firm foundation of points, covering 50-something miles of mixed terrain including some real off-road slogs.

The overnight camp was a particularly fine one, with fine Lakeland views and a convenient stream for water. It turned cold overnight and we awoke to find our bikes covered in a layer of ice.

On Sunday the sun was out and everything looked good for a while. Unfortunately one of my knee ligaments decided it had had enough, and decided to throw a tantrum on every pedal stroke, even without any weight on it. Disappointed, we limped back to the finish on the road and crossed the line an hour early. The fact that we still managed a top third position hints at the top quarter it may possibly have been out there in some alternate universe.

Overall position: 129th / 387 teams.
